These pieces were created in a mixed medium of acrylics, gel pens, pencils, and charcoal. Having lived in Puerto Rico and Honduras as a youth, I am no stranger to vibrant colors, and I create works that transport others to this magical, colorful world. Every color I use is like a musical note in my ear; then I blend them together to create a visual song. My pieces attempt to integrate the joy of color with an interesting subject to produce bold, bright, daring pieces. When I paint or draw, I focus on one subject in order to concentrate on the details of the subject. I try to emphasize one thing in each subject. Usually it’s the eyes—for me, the eyes are the windows to the soul. I also establish my light source to add highlights and shadows, all while making my subjects look as realistic as possible.
